Audit Report

An audit report is the formal opinion an approved company auditor issues after independently auditing a company's financial statements. Under Malaysia's Companies Act 2016, most private limited companies must have their accounts audited every year, as part of their annual compliance.

Is a company audit a statutory requirement?

Yes. Apart from small companies that meet specific exemption conditions, private limited companies in Malaysia are generally required to have a statutory audit every year, and to lodge the audited financial statements with SSM, separately from the annual return. Whether a company qualifies for an audit exemption is determined under SSM's latest guidance.

Who carries out the audit?

The audit must be carried out by an approved company auditor licensed by the Ministry of Finance (MoF). This is expressly required by law, and the auditor must be independent of the company so that the opinion is objective and impartial.
